Amanvari Opens This Spring: Inside Aman's First Mexico Resort on Baja's East Cape

Aman has spent four decades building a reputation on what most resorts don't have: fewer rooms, more space, and an almost monastic commitment to place. This spring, the brand finally arrives in Mexico, and the property is exactly what regulars would expect. Eighteen casitas, the Sea of Cortés on one side, the Sierra de la Laguna mountains on the other, and a wellness program built around a contemporary temazcal.

Amanvari is the most consequential luxury hotel opening of 2026. Not because it's the biggest, but because it's the smallest. In a year of 100+ new luxury openings, an 18-key resort from Aman is a deliberate statement about where the top of the market is going.

Where It Sits

Amanvari is part of Costa Palmas, a 1,500-acre private estate on Baja California Sur's East Cape that already includes a Four Seasons, a Robert Trent Jones Jr. golf course, an organic farm, and a deep-water marina that can host yachts up to 250 feet. The East Cape (the stretch of coastline between La Paz and Los Cabos) is one of the few places in mainland Baja with a swimmable beach. That detail matters. Most of Cabo's famous Pacific-side beaches are too rough to enter.

For Oklahoma travelers, the practical advantage is connectivity. San José del Cabo (SJD) is a 4–5 hour drive northeast to Costa Palmas, with daily nonstop flights from Dallas and a short connection from Oklahoma City. We've moved clients to the East Cape since the Four Seasons opened in 2019, and the routing has gotten better every year.

What Aman Is Bringing

The brand standard at Aman is to do less, beautifully. At Amanvari, that translates to:

  • 18 casitas with sea and mountain views, designed by Elastic Architects to dissolve the line between indoors and out

  • A separate collection of branded residences with private pools and courtyards, available for private rental

  • Three signature restaurants: Sesui (Japanese), Arva (Italian), and Luma, an open-fire concept anchored in Baja's seasonal ingredients

  • Six treatment rooms plus two Hydro Houses with banya and hammam, a 24-hour fitness facility, and a contemporary temazcal sweat lodge

  • A near 1:3 staff-to-guest ratio when fully operational. That's the math that makes Aman feel like Aman.

Why It Matters for Luxury Travelers in 2026

The trend reports this year all point in the same direction. Virtuoso's latest Luxe Report calls "uncrowded destinations" the new luxury. Wellness has moved from amenity to motivator. And small-key resorts with deep service ratios are commanding rates that 200-room luxury hotels can no longer reach.

Amanvari is purpose-built for all three. The East Cape is roughly an hour by road from Cabo's main resort corridor, which is exactly far enough to feel removed from it. Eighteen rooms means a near-guarantee of privacy without sacrificing the food and service infrastructure of a larger property. And the wellness offering (Hydro Houses, temazcal, full medical-grade fitness) is the strongest Aman has built outside of Amangiri.

Booking Window and Realistic Cost

Aman doesn't publicly publish rates pre-opening, but based on rate parity with Amanyara (Turks and Caicos) and Amangiri, expect $3,500–$6,000+ per night for a casita in high season, with the residences pricing significantly above that for groups. A 5-night stay for a couple, all-in, will sit in the $25,000–$45,000+ range including transfers, dining, and treatments.

Reservations open to Aman members ahead of general booking. Our office can request early access and pair the stay with charter aviation from OKC if the timing requires it.

What to Ask Before You Book

  1. Does the casita layout match your trip? Some have private plunge pools, some don't. For honeymoons and milestones, the difference matters.

  2. Are you pairing it with Aman's residences? For multi-generation groups, the residences solve the math better than booking multiple casitas.

  3. What's your shoulder-season tolerance? Baja is brilliant October through May. June through September brings humidity and the occasional hurricane track. Aman tends to discount summer aggressively.

  4. What's the right yacht setup? Costa Palmas' marina takes vessels up to 250 feet. If a charter is on the table, we coordinate ahead of arrival.

How Haus Travel Can Help

Haus Travel has been planning Mexico itineraries for clients since 1975. We hold direct booking relationships with Aman, Four Seasons, Rosewood, and the rest of the brands operating in Baja, which means amenity inclusions, suite upgrades when available, and a single point of contact when something needs adjusting on the ground. Amanvari is the most-requested 2026 opening on our books. If it's on your shortlist, we'd suggest a conversation now, before the inaugural-season inventory tightens further.
