Inside Villa Timeo: Belmond's New 21-Suite Taormina Hideaway

The most interesting hotel reopening of the spring is happening this month, and most American travelers haven't heard about it yet. Belmond is unveiling Villa Timeo, a 21-key Sicilian noble residence tucked just behind the legendary Grand Hotel Timeo in Taormina, fully reimagined by French designer Laura Gonzalez.

It's small. It's expensive. And for the right kind of trip, it might be the most compelling Italian booking on the board right now.

Haus Travel has been arranging luxury Italy itineraries for Oklahoma City clients since 1975, and Sicily has quietly become one of the harder bookings on our desk. Villa Timeo changes the conversation in Taormina yet again.

Where It Sits

Villa Timeo is steps from the Grand Hotel Timeo, the 19th-century Belmond flagship perched on the cliffs above Taormina's ancient Greek amphitheatre. Guests look directly out at the Mediterranean and, on a clear morning, the smoking summit of Mount Etna in the distance.

The villa sits inside the same grounds as the main hotel. That means access to the Grand Hotel Timeo's Michelin-starred restaurant Otto Geleng, the pool, the spa, the lounges, and the concierge desk that books everything from private boat charters to vineyard helicopter days.

Taormina itself is roughly an hour's drive from Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA), which connects easily from Rome and Milan. For OKC clients, the typical routing runs Oklahoma City to DFW or IAH, onward to FCO or MXP, then a 50-minute hop to Catania.

What's Notable About Villa Timeo

Laura Gonzalez built Villa Timeo around the bones of a real Sicilian noble residence. Here's what sets it apart:

  • Total buyout flexibility. All 21 rooms and suites can be booked together as a private buyout, the kind of arrangement families and friend groups have been struggling to find at this caliber in Italy.

  • The Clementina Suite. Named for the founding family's daughter, it's the largest room in the property, with a private terrace and hillside views down to the Ionian Sea.

  • Laura Gonzalez's design hand. Gonzalez is one of the most in-demand interior designers in Europe right now, with credits at Cartier and the Loulou restaurant in Paris. She pulled in South Italian stone, antique furniture, classic Italian marble, and mid-century classics. The result reads more like a private home than a hotel.

  • Private infinity pool. The villa has its own pool and pool terrace bar, separate from the main hotel.

  • Indoor bar and pool lounge. Drinks service runs throughout the day, exclusive to villa guests.

  • Full Grand Hotel Timeo privileges. Spa, beach club access at sister property Belmond Villa Sant'Andrea down the coast, Otto Geleng dinners, and the famed terrace overlooking the Greek theatre.

Why It Matters in the Broader Luxury Market

Taormina was already one of the hottest destinations on the luxury Italy map before this opening. Virtuoso recorded a 424% jump in Sicily bookings after The White Lotus filmed its second season at the nearby San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel. Citalia reported a 100% year over year increase. The White Lotus premium on rates has not deflated.

In July 2025, one client bought out the entire 105-room San Domenico Palace for a 60th birthday, six nights, a reported $2.5 million spend.

Villa Timeo is what comes next. Taormina has the world's attention. The market wants smaller, more private, more design-led stays. A 21-room standalone with a buyout option and Belmond service is precisely calibrated for this moment.

Cost and Booking Window

Grand Hotel Timeo rates currently start around $508 per night and climb past $2,790 for top suites at peak season. Villa Timeo pricing is positioned at the top of the Belmond Taormina collection, with opening-season nightly rates landing comfortably in the four-figure range and full-property buyout pricing reaching well into the high five figures per night.

The booking window is tight. Sicily's prime months are May, June, and September. By the time peak summer hits, the best Villa Timeo dates will be gone. If you're considering 2026 or 2027 for Sicily, this is a decision worth making in the next few weeks, not the next few months.

What to Ask Before You Book

  1. Are you looking for a private full-villa buyout, or individual rooms within Villa Timeo?

  2. How important is Otto Geleng dinner availability? Belmond properties book their Michelin tables for in-house guests first.

  3. Do you want to pair Villa Timeo with another Italian stop like Capri, the Amalfi Coast, or Florence, or stay deeper in Sicily through Noto, Palermo, and the Aeolian Islands?

  4. Are private boat days, Mount Etna excursions, or vineyard tastings on the wish list? These get booked out 90 days ahead in Taormina's high season.

  5. How are you flying in, and do you want a private transfer from Catania or a chauffeured day in route?

How Haus Travel Can Help

We work directly with Belmond. That means our clients get the amenity program at properties across the portfolio: complimentary breakfast daily, an in-stay food and beverage credit, room upgrade at check-in subject to availability, and early check-in or late check-out where the calendar allows. On Villa Timeo specifically, our access lets us route booking requests through the right people at Belmond's reservations team and surface availability that may not be live on the website yet.

For Oklahoma City clients, we coordinate the full chain: OKC to DFW or IAH, the transatlantic, the connection to Catania, the private transfer, the in-stay reservations at Otto Geleng, and the side trips. Email Blake at blake@haus-travel.com or call the Haus Travel office to start a Sicily plan.
