For most of its 38 years, Aman has made you earn the arrival. Amangiri sits hours from the nearest major airport. Amanpuri is a Pacific crossing away. The remoteness was always part of the product.
Now the brand is building one within a day's drive of Oklahoma. Aman has announced Amansanu, its first ranch resort, set in rolling limestone terrain about 90 minutes northwest of Austin in the Texas Hill Country. It becomes the brand's sixth property in the United States, joining Amangiri in Utah, Amangani in Jackson Hole, and Aman New York, with Miami Beach and Beverly Hills openings also in the pipeline.
The name comes from Sanskrit and means peaceful peak. The concept is more interesting than the name: standalone guest pavilions designed by Olson Kundig, the brand's first fully serviced stables, a spa set along a natural creek, and a small collection of Aman branded homes on hillside sites of ten acres or more. For our clients, here is the headline. When it opens, Amansanu will be the closest Aman to Oklahoma City by a wide margin.
Where it sits
Aman has not published an exact address, but the brief is specific: rolling limestone hills roughly 90 minutes northwest of Austin, which puts the site out toward Llano and San Saba country, well past the Lake Travis sprawl. This is the quiet side of the Hill Country. Oak savanna, granite outcrops, spring wildflowers, and some of the darkest night skies in Texas.
The drive math matters. Oklahoma City to the northwest Hill Country runs about six and a half hours by car. Or fly into Austin and drive 90 minutes. Compare that to Amangiri, which is a two-flight day plus a long desert drive, and you see exactly what Aman is offering Texas and Oklahoma money: the same brand, no airports required.
What Aman is doing differently
This is not a resort hotel with a ranch theme. The program reads like a working estate.
Olson Kundig pavilions. The Seattle firm is known for low-slung buildings that open entire walls to the landscape. Guests stay in standalone pavilions scattered across the terrain rather than a single lodge block.
Aman's first working stables. Fully serviced stables with riding trails across the property. No other Aman in the world has this.
A spa on a live creek. The Aman Spa and Wellness Center sits along the property's natural creek, trading the usual interior treatment rooms for running water and shade.
Ranch-scale residences. Four- to eight-bedroom homes on hillside sites starting at ten acres, each with its own pool and outdoor living areas, fully serviced by the resort.
A Main Lodge built for long stays. Several dining concepts under one roof, plus racquet courts and an extensive hiking trail network across the property.
Why this matters
Aman is reading the same numbers we are. American luxury travelers have been spending heavily at home since 2020, and Texas is where the money moved. The Austin region has minted wealth at a pace few metros can match, and the Hill Country's top end is still boutique inns and dude ranches. Nothing within 200 miles operates at Aman's price point. Amansanu will have the category to itself.
There is also a brand story here. Aman built its reputation on far-flung Asia, then spent recent years planting flags in American money centers: New York in 2022, Miami Beach and Beverly Hills under construction, and now a ranch within striking distance of Dallas, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. That is not a coincidence. That is a map of where the clients live.
Cost and the booking window
Aman has not announced an opening date or rates, so we work from benchmarks. Amangiri, the closest analog in the US portfolio, runs roughly $3,500 to $6,000 per night for entry suites in high season. Aman New York opened north of $3,000. Expect Amansanu pavilions to land somewhere in that band, with multi-bedroom residences priced on request.
On timing: the project was announced in April 2026, and builds of this scale typically run three or more years from announcement to opening. Think 2029, give or take. Residences usually open for inquiry well before the hotel takes reservations. If the homes interest you, the time to raise a hand is now. If it is the hotel you want, opening-season rates are often the most favorable a property will ever offer, and the list for them forms early.
What to ask before you book
Hotel stay or residence? The pavilions will suit a long weekend or a week. The residences are a different conversation involving ownership structure, rental programs, and Texas property questions worth running past your advisors.
Which season? March and April bring the bluebonnets and mild days. Fall is dry and golden. July and August regularly clear 95 degrees, and no creekside spa fixes that.
How does it compare to Amangiri for the same spend? Amangiri gives you slot canyons and desert drama. Amansanu will give you horses, water, and a drive instead of two flights. Different trips, same invoice.
What is your opening-year tolerance? First seasons carry energy and occasional service wrinkles. Some clients want to be first through the gate; some want year two. Both are valid.
Track it or book it? There is nothing to book yet. The right move today is getting on the interest list with clear notes on your preferences.
