Every Ambassador suite includes personal concierge service, in-suite Wi-Fi, a stocked minibar, and a spa-style bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. What the room rate doesn't tell you is that your suite category has almost no bearing on where you can eat or swim.

Does staying Ambassador shut you out of Cocina de Autor?

No, and this is the part that trips up first-time bookers. Grand Velas' own policy states plainly that every guest at the resort is invited to use all three ambiances and their facilities. Cocina de Autor sits inside Grand Class, but an Ambassador guest walks in the same door as anyone else, once the reservation is confirmed.

Cocina de Autor earned a Michelin star in 2024 and was the first restaurant inside an all-inclusive resort to hold AAA Five Diamond status. Chef Nahum Velasco runs the kitchen with input from Mikel Alonso and Bruno Oteiza, and the tasting menu changes with the season rather than running a fixed script. Seating runs 6:00 to 9:45 p.m., dress code is smart casual (no flip-flops, shorts, gym or beach clothes, and that rule applies to teens 16 and over), and resort guests pay no deposit to book, just an 850 peso per-person no-show fee if you skip without 48 hours' notice.

Book it the same day you confirm your suite. One seating window a night, across an entire resort, fills fast in high season, and Cocina de Autor is the reservation that actually makes or breaks the trip, not the suite category.

Is Grand Velas Riviera Maya actually kid-friendly at this level?

Yes, with one clean carve-out. The Ambassador Ambiance is built for families, with a Kids' Club for ages 4 to 12 and a Teens' Club for 13 to 18. Frida, in the Ambassador wing, and Sen Lin and Chaka, both in Zen Grand, are open to the whole family, no age minimum.

The exception is Grand Class fine dining. Cocina de Autor and Piaf restrict entry to guests 16 and older, with one narrow window: children 12 and up are welcome at the 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. seating only.
